Water Water Everywhere but not a drop to drink!

Water cascades down the northern section of Gilooly's Farm - a great place to take the kids and dogs for a romp in Johannesburg.  It is quite apt to have a water cooler bottle jammed in this highly polluted and toxic water - E-Coli counts are HUGE.

Falke Socks for Running are NOT the best

Falke the manufacturer of running socks really pride themselves in their quality however I beg to differ.  This is an example of a pair for which I logged my usage.

Eleven training runs later and they were holier than the Pope.  This is not an exception, it is the norm, so I am now on a quest to find socks for running that have the longevity that the old Nike brand used to have before they disappeared off our market.

Bomb Scare!

Until recently, this scary warning from the Appartheid days was still on a prominent wall at Balfour Park Shopping Complex in Highlands North

The Value of Real Money

Every Day a beggar sits next to this site?  Makes me wonder.

The Rabbi and The Crucifix?

Is the crucifix in memorial of a gentile that parked beyond this point?

I could not resist taking this photo on the grounds of an upmarket Johannesburg Synagogue!

The Haunted Pothole of Longmeadow

This Pothole cost me 3 tyres, a rim and a wheel trim in February.  The location was Van Rieebeck ave in Longmeadow approaching the Modderfontein rd interchange near Greenstone Shopping centre in Edenvale.

That evening I returned to photograph it when I discovered that it had eyes!
  Very frightening indeed.

U2 and the Poor Magnificent Calabash

It was typically pathetic that the Johannesburg Municipality did not do any maintenance surrounding the FNB Stadium before the memorable U2 Concert on 13 February 2011.  One would expect the major sponsor to ensure that their image is not tainted either. Walking from the Shareworld Park & Walk we had to endanger our lives by walking on the busy congested road instead of walking on the pavement - our constitutional right to safety thus neglected.

Gathering Storm Clouds - Above and Below

Ominous Blue lights glow from the Toll Gantries along the N1 freeway in Gauteng.
Mubarak type protests will one day make our government wake up.

Powder Puff Tree

Since the next FIFA WORLD CUP will be in Brazil, it is apt for Johannesburg to show off Calliandra Brevipase (common name the powder puff tree) as part of our magic world beating urban forest

Anaesthetist Napping During Surgery

Sometimes even a hard working Anaesthetist deserves a rest - this one fell asleep during surgery at one of Gauteng's State Hospitals.
This takes overworked and unpaid to the next level!

South Africa's Burgeoning Disabled Police Force

Is Ignorance a disability
On Friday
This afternoon at 16:30 I went to Sportsmans warehouse in Stone Ridge (Edenvale).

Upon arrival I noticed an SAPS vehicle pictured here parked in the disabled bay.
When I entered the store there were two SAPS officers making a purchase.
I approached them and asked them if they were on official business - the reply "no".
I then asked why they were parked in a disabled bay.
The reply "there are too many bullets and guns so our heads are not right"
I then replied "being ignorant is not a disablilty".
I was then challenged with "are you insulting me"? To which I replied, "no you are insulting your uniform".

Perhaps too many bullets and guns makes them unstable for duty?
I simply reported this to the head of the Edenvale Community Policing Forum - he is taking action.

The K Shop?

Yesterday morning I was driving home along the R24 through Mayfair The road is called Central avenue (it becomes Market Street). Traveling in an Easterly direction, on the right hand side of the road is a Shop called 'The K Shop'.  What I would like to understand is how on earth can they get away with this? Here is the Google Map showing the location

You can bet that no White Afrikaner could get away with this!
